"Once you learn to convert negative thoughts

into positive ones, you will begin to move

out of your dark place and into the

light, finding peace and contentment."

Positive Psychotherapy

Positive psychotherapy focuses on character strengths and behaviors that allow individuals to build a more purposeful and meaningful life.

Positive Psychotherapy encompasses a variety of techniques that encourage individuals to identify and develop their positive emotions, experiences, and character traits.  It can treat emotional difficulties and provide individuals a more meaningful life.

There are some common misconceptions about positive psychology, both about what it is and what it is not.

To clear up some of these misunderstandings and provide a brief but comprehensive overview of the field, we’ve put together this piece focused on defining and describing the positive psychology movement.

As a therapeutic tool, Positive Psychotherapy focuses on an individual’s strengths, life satisfaction, well-being and gratitude.  As a result it can serve to alter an individual’s perspective and result in a radically more positive outlook on life.  Positive attitude counseling is not intended to replace traditional psychology, but it can complement it with a more positive bias.

As a field, positive psychology spends much of its time thinking about topics like character strengths, optimism, life satisfaction, happiness, well-being, gratitude, compassion (as well as self-compassion), self-esteem and self-confidence, hope, and elevation.

Counseling positive attitudes also has advantages when counseling situations of grief, personal isolation and life transitions.

Positive Psychotherapy Incorporates...........

Positive Experiences

We all thrive when we dedicate ourselves to a cause; experience a sense of meaning and accomplish goals.  A drive to achieve can serve to promote a sense of well-being.

Positive Character

As humans, we are social creatures and rely on connections with others to flourish. Having vital, meaningful connections to others is important to our well-being.

Positive Emotions

Experiencing positive emotions is an important factor in boosting your well-being. One of the ways that this can be accomplished is by doing more things that make your happy and enjoying yourself in the moment.
